Matarangi and the surrounding Coromandel Peninsular are treasure troves of interesting things to see and do. The beauty of the landscape alone is enough to entertain one for hours of sightseeing. Activities can be as passive or active as you feel, from relaxing with a book or strolling along the beach, to hiking in the surrounding hills or playing sports. It’s up to you!

Looking for ideas, here’s Kev’s list of things to do in Matarangi and surrounding areas in no particular order.
The Loghouse is located 500m from the Dune Golf Resort, the Dunes resort has an excellent 18 hole course with spectacular views. The Matarangi golf course is located on the end of the peninsula with water on three sides, it is a very beautiful place to enjoy a round of golf. After a round of golf relax at the Dunes bar which has relaxing views of the course.
Kev your host is a keen Golfer and at the Loghouse we have Golf Clubs available for use by our guests.

The Dunes Golf Resort also has a excellent restaurant which is open Wednesday to Sunday.
There are many enjoyable Beach / Bush walks around Matarangi, from walks along Matarangi beach itself to hikes up to the sleeping giant. Kev is happy to be your guide either taking you on the walks you choose or just giving you directions on how to get there.
The Dune Golf Resort has an excellent list of walks in the Matarangi area.
Kev has done almost all of these walks and can give you advice on what will suit you best, as well as things to watch out for. He can also drop you off at the start of a track and pick you up at the end.
At Loghouse we have Kayaks available for use by our guests, and Matarangi is a beautiful place to kayak. Kev your host has an excellent knowledge of where to Kayak around Matarangi, and can help here with finding a great kayaking spot for any skill levels.
New Chums beach is a truly beautiful spot, accessible via a short walk around the rocks from Whangapoua, this is one of Kev’s favourite spots. This peaceful beach is untouched by man, with not a house in sight. Its a great place for swimming or walking, you really do feel like you are on a deserted Pacific island.
Kev is happy to take you for a walk around to New Chums beach or if you prefer to go it alone, he can provide you with directions and a map.
Matarangi beach is a 4 km long white sand ocean beach which provides safe swimming all year round. It’s never too crowded and is great for families, and is a perfect place to spend the day. The walkway to the beach is one door down from the Loghouse, a five-minute walk gets you on the nice soft sand.
At the Loghouse we have bikes and helmets available for use by our guests. Kev can take you on a cycle ride or you can just head off on your own.
Matarangi is a great place to cycle around with very little traffic, cycling is a great way to enjoy the beauty of Matarangi and its surrounding areas.
The Matarangi Beach circuit ride is about 10km, with the route going along the beach and back along the cycleway.
